Puget Sound Flight Masters Basketball Club
|
Puget Sound Flight Masters Basketball Club, a non-profit charitable organization, is a local women's basketball team, age forty and over, training for the World Master's Games. World Master's Games, held every four years, are the largest combined athletic and cultural event in the world. These international games are an Olympic caliber event for masters aged athletes. These women participated in the 1998 World Master's Games held in Portland, Oregon, winning two and losing two. Now, as the Puget Sound Flight Masters Basketball Club, they participated in the 2002 World Master's Games in Melbourne, Australia, October 5-13, 2002, winning three and losing three, coming in tied for 4th place out of seven teams. They were the only team to beat the Australian team that won the gold medal. The current team is comprised of three former University of Washington players, one former University of Southern California player, one former Western Washington University player, two former California State University-Chico players, and a former Northern Arizona University player. Several of us currently have daughters playing high school basketball, while some of us coach girl's basketball. We are at a time in our lives where women and girls have the opportunity to play sports at an elite level. The Seattle Storm and University of Washington Huskies are very popular in Seattle. As women in our 40's and 50's, some of us never had these opportunities at a young age. However, we have continued to play over the years, and have put together a group of excellent ball players who have the skills, ability, and desire to play international basketball. |
